It's not every day that you see someone win the Twin Cities Marathon twice in a row. It's even more rare to see them take home two consecutive titles. This year, though, St. Paul runner Ryan Reardon became the first person ever to do it.
In 2015, the Twin Cities Marathon was a close competition between three male runners. In 2016, two of those same runners were in contention for the victory- Chip Lydiard from Minneapolis and Ryan Vail from California.
It seemed that they would be battling it out to see who could win consecutive titles once again. However, a new runner came along and took home the top spot- 30 year old Robbie Young from St Paul.
Hugh Brasher, Race Director of the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon and U.S.A. Track & Field (USATF) Board Member said: "It is a tremendous honor to see Craig take home his third consecutive Twin Cities Marathon title in 2019."
"Craig ran an incredible race and he will be hard to beat at any future marathon," Brasher added. "We're really proud of him."
Heidi St. Paul became the first ever person to win multiple titles in a year at the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, which was founded more than 40 years ago by one of her friends.
The event now features a full weekend of running and fitness events that attract runners from all over the world.
One of the many interesting things about Sunday’s Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon is that one man won it for the second time in a row.
Scott Jurek, who ran 2:37 in 1997, completed his second title at the age of 47. This was also his fifth-straight victory at Twin Cities and 11th overall.
One of the best ways to break a marathon down is by split time. The Twin Cities Marathon will be no different this year, as recent winner Aaron Braun has set a new course record in both the men’s and women’s races at 2:11:14 and 2:25:41 respectively.
That was enough for Braun to become the first runner ever to win multiple titles in one year.
All in all, this was an incredible year for St. Paul Runner! I’m so proud of his accomplishments and I can’t wait to see what he does next.
What does this mean for you? Whether you’re a runner, or just want to be able to finish your day without feeling like a zombie, winning is never easy.
To win multiple races in the same year is amazing and I hope it inspires others to do the same.
