When the rookie from Boise State, Zach Wilson, is not at his locker cleaning out his locker as he was preparing to leave for a well-deserved break after four months of football camp, you can find him in the film room. 

Wilson will be back for more training and preseason games come springtime and Saleh believes that it will just take time before we see what Wilson is capable of.

 

In a recent interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, 49ers' defensive coordinator Robert Saleh suggests that jets' Zach Wilson will be a threat when it 'clicks.' 

 

When asked about his defense's eight sacks and five turnovers in the past two games, he replied: "I do think we have some guys who are going to finally click. They're getting better."

The San Francisco 49ers have been ravaged by injuries to key players in recent weeks, including quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

 

The team is 2-10 and has lost six straight games. It's also been without both starting outside linebackers, with rookie Fred Warner dealing with a groin injury and veteran Eli Harold sidelined after having surgery on his ankle.

 

But there are some things going for the Niners at this point in the season. One of them is running back Tevin Coleman, who was acquired from Atlanta before the trade deadline and whose play in relief duty has impressed head coach Kyle Shanahan enough that he's an "absolute must" to return.

At the end of the day, it’s important to remember that Zach Wilson is an extremely talented player. All he needs is some time to adjust and I don’t doubt for a second that we will see him on the field more and more in future weeks. 

 

Wilson's day was cut short when he left with a knee injury in the second quarter, but there are clearly some promising flashes of talent to be found. 

 

If Wilson can stay healthy and continue to develop, he'll prove to be a real threat for opposing defenses down the road.
